CT Radon and Well Water Solutions was called out to a home in Norwalk CT to investigate a house that was built entirely on a dirt crawl space. Elevated radon levels of 10+ pCi/l were recorded in multiple living areas over the crawl space.

We went out to the home and found that the house was built entirely over exposed dirt crawl spaces.

CT Radon and Well Water Solutions was hired to mitigate the property. We installed a cross-laminated poly vapor barrier over the entire dirt floor footprint. We then installed suction pipes through the barrier and routed them to the home's exterior where we connected an in-line fan to the pipe network to create suction under the barrier and expel the soil gas outdoors above the roofline. Post-mitigation testing revealed results of < 1.0 pCi/l in all living areas.

Fairfield County Radon Testing and Mitigation Services

Radon is an odorless, tasteless, invisible gas that can seriously threaten your health. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. The gas comes from the natural decay of uranium in soils. Any home can have a radon problem. It can get into the home through cracks or other openings in the foundation. Radon can be present in water, too. A radon test is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk from radon. CT Radon and Well Water Solutions provides professional radon testing, inspections, and mitigation services in Fairfield County and surrounding towns and cities. If your home has high radon levels, we can install a radon mitigation system to effectively and efficiently reduce the amount of radon gas in your home. If you’re concerned that your water is at risk for contamination, we can provide a quality radon water test to determine if your well is contaminated.

Whole house arsenic removal Weston, CT

A homeowner is selling their home and had their home inspected. A water analysis was performed on the home's well water supply. An elevated arsenic concentration was detected.

Since the home has multiple bedrooms and baths, a whole-house treatment approach was requested. Unlike radon where there is an off-gas concern - requiring whole-house treatment, arsenic poses a consumption concern, so point of use is a viable treatment strategy (reverse osmosis). However; the buyers felt more comfortable knowing all points of use to be treated. Therefore we installed a Green Pro whole house arsenic removal system using Metsorb adsorptive media.

Metsorb is highly effective in the removal of both As III and AS V. Knowing some basic water quality parameters and doing an arsenic speciation test allows for a "bed life" approximation. The meter on the system tracks the gallonage that passes through the system, which helps narrow down a tank replacement timeframe.

The advantages of the Green Pro system are that it's non-mechanical, takes up little floor space, and is highly effective in arsenic removal capabilities for both types of arsenic. It can be difficult to remove effectively with reverse osmosis.
